Jumpsters Set for Busy Speaking Schedule

The year is still young, but Jumpsters are already scattering across the country to share our perspectives on research, design and strategy. Dev Patnaik joins a keynote panel at Red Herring's CMO conference Feb. 5. Clynton Taylor is managing the Silicon Valley AMA Research Panel. Lara Lee will set the record straight on goal-setting at Berkeley's Women in Leadership Conference, and Alonzo Canada joins thought leaders galore to discuss the future of design at South by Southwest in March.

Starting in February, Taylor will lead monthly sessions of the forum, which brings together leading research thinkers in the San Francisco Bay Area, to discuss best practices, share triumphs, and get inspired by guest speakers.

Speaker Biographies (in alphabetical order):

Alonzo Canada has particular expertise in integrating the directives of brand positioning, competitive strategy and consumer insights to create compelling experiences for ordinary people. Alonzo is the former creative director of RoundArch, a CRM solutions firm spun off from Deloitte Consulting. Alonzo built and led the firm’s design practice, helping Fortune 500 clients to translate their brand strategy into an online presence. Alonzo studied Japanese for four years and spent two years teaching in Osaka. He holds two Master’s degrees, one in Design from Stanford University and one in Fine Art from Mills College, where his work involved a conceptual exploration of the liminal space between reality and fantasy.

Clynton Taylor was born in Sydney, Australia and has since lived in fourteen cities, in three countries, on three continents. As an ethnographer living in the Bay Area, Clynton was unable to escape the gravitational pull of the dotcom bubble. He went on to work with such media darlings as C|Net and WetFeet.com, helping them to conduct online research and develop relationship marketing programs. Clynton has also served as a brand strategist for Gymboree, a children’s clothing retailer and service provider. While there, he created and launched a program to market parenting classes directly to corporate HR departments. Clynton has a Master’s in Organizational Psychology from Alliant University. His thesis focused on how companies can best facilitate and harness the innovative thought that occurs when employees regularly interact with their customers. Prior to joining Jump, he founded Gestalt, a consulting firm that provided social research services, most notably to leading advertising agencies.

Dev Patnaik draws upon a background in design, social research and business planning. He has worked with Fortune 500 firms and fledgling startups in the U.S., Asia, and Australia, helping them to explore new opportunities for growth. Dev works with leaders of new business groups to help them increase the effectiveness of their internal teams. He combines a hands-on understanding of how innovation happens with an expertise in non-traditional approaches for identifying what’s next. Dev is also an adjunct professor at Stanford University, where he teaches design-research methods to undergraduate and graduate students. He is a frequent speaker at forums for marketing, design and innovation. His articles on research and strategy have appeared in several publications, including BusinessWeek, the Design Management Review, and Brandweek.

Lara Lee is an experienced new business explorer, tying empathy for ordinary people’s needs to an ability to define clear business goals and design agile organizations. She is a frequent speaker at marketing and innovation forums, and she is one of a handful of people worldwide ever recognized by BusinessWeek as a ‘Master of Innovation.’ Prior to joining Jump, Lara served as Harley-Davidson’s Vice President, Enthusiast Services, starting new businesses and leading growth initiatives in both international and domestic markets. She designed and built a training business; led development and design for the Harley-Davidson Museum; established a services new business incubator; championed web-based community building; and worked to restructure and reposition the Harley brand in Europe and the Asia-Pacific markets. Earlier in her career Lara held positions in finance at Otis Elevator Co. and as an executive consultant at Ernst and Whinney. Lara holds dual master’s degrees in business administration and international affairs from the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School. She has a bachelor’s degree in Chinese language from Brown University.
