Hybrid Thinking

Overview

Today's deeply ambiguous problems can't be solved with one approach, one field, or one discipline. Simply put, we need more crossing over and combining of disciplines. To solve issues around healthcare for example, we need science, medicine and pharmacology, but we also need organizational change management and art, engineering and wellness, and politics and Eastern philosophy. We need doctors to think like economists, and more importantly, more economists and politicians to actually think like doctors.

Hybrid thinking, the conscious blending of different disciplines to create entirely new fields of thought, is the antidote to ambiguity we so desperately need. It allows us to see across silos, see around barriers, and see new opportunities that others might miss. And only when we act as one-part humanist, one-part technologist and one-part capitalist will we have the wherewithal to solve our most pressing challenges in politics, education, healthcare, business and beyond.

At Jump, hybrid thinking permeates everything we do. We hire hybrid people – folks with chemistry degrees who also happen to be artists, anthropologists who previously worked as design researchers, and Emmy-award winning filmmakers with MBAs. We then build unique work spaces that support their collaboration – allowing people and ideas to flow, insights to persist from day one of a project to day 180, and exploration to continue unimpeded. And the result: We pioneer new approaches to strategy at the intersection of design, culture and business – helping business leaders tackle highly ambiguous growth challenges.
